Default Anyone Have Issues With K&N Drop in Filter and MAF Sensor?

Hey guys, I recently purchased a 07 550i. Today I put in a brand new K&N replacement filter, and shortly there after the engine turned off when I was turning around in a parking lot.

I've read a lot of opinions that oiled filters such as K&N will damage or ruin MAF sensors (ala e39 m5's).. But I've also used them for years on other cars and never had a single issue. My previous E60 N52 525i had one in it for 2 years/20k+ miles.

I do have the charcoal filter still installed.

Any of you guys (especially 545 or 550 owners) have any negative experiences with K&N oiled drop-in replacement air filters?

Thanks,
Patrick

I've had a K&N drop-in filter installed on my 550i for over a year now without issue. My charcoal filter had been removed as well prior to installing it.

It's a good practice to lay out these oiled filters on some paper towels overnight (or even a few days) to soak up any excess oil from the factory. Though, from experience there really isn't much oil that this will soak...can't hurt to be safe though.

I'd try cleaning the MAF to see if it resolves the issue.

I have an 07 550i and removed the charcoal filter and dropped in the K&N filter when I purchased the car (been about a year now) and have not had any issues.

No issues here with K&N and charcoal filter removed (545). Been this way for nearly two years.

Check the connection at your MAF, it may not be fully connected. When I initially removed my charcoal filter, I didn't quite clip the connector back on good and the car would just die under load.

Thanks guys! I haven't had any more issues with it, but it is sounding strong and mean! I love the roar of the N62!
