anyone ever tried painting their wheels...?

before i get all the naysayers who will tell me to powdercoat...i know its better to powdercoat, it will last longer, look better, blah, blah, blah. i was trying to sell the wheels but im not getting any real bites. so i decided to try and do a little shaping and painting myself. i could use a project to give me some thinking time. work is nuts and the new house is driving me crazy. i need something to do besides painting walls and installing crown molding, i need to be outside. so my question is...has anyone ever painted wheels themselves. ive watched a few videos and read up on some techniques so i have the basic idea of what needs to be done. sand, smooth, clean, prime, paint and dry. im looking for any tips or tricks to get the best results possible. thanx.

Regardless, powercoating rims can cost $200-$500 depending on where you go. You can also have a paint shop paint them for around that price... imo it would be better to have professionals do it.

this idea had crossed my mind as well...
it is a b*tch to get all the paint off of your original wheels -- and the detial that is needed to tape off the wheel (unless you plan on painting the entire face inside one color) is very very time consuming...
I got through 1 wheel and said F it -- had a paint place paint them for 400.
i'd say think of another way to pass the time

your prob right...maybe ill just drive down to ac, get a high priced hooker and blow some cash and the blackjack table. hey if i win big ill just replace the rims

ive been quoted a few differnet prices. from 300 to 600 for repairs and coating. i was looking for a project now that i brought my ride back to stock. i figure if i doesnt work out ill just have them blasted and coated. id only be down the cost of paint and maybe one or 2 good weather days.

what about having just the lip painted a satin black or whatever your mmr's are in the center.. then youll have an all black wheel, totally different look for your car considering the way it was before.. ---im just saying---
