The stock stereo that comes with the E60, seems very weak. It doesn't go that loud. Maybe its me, however has anyone modified there systems in there car, if so please post, and refer me to someone. Thanks

Some quality component speakers up front along with a decent sub and a couple of amps to power everything should bring your sound a long way.

The premium sound system, while good, may be a bit overpriced at it's $1800 pricetag. I wouldn't mind getting something aftermarket myself.

There are some good audio forums out there if your interested.

i have a single jl 10w7 in a ported box with an xtant 1001x amp connected to it. it hits real hard and adds a nice punch to the in my opinion weak factory system.

Comparing to the sound of my preview 525 - 2002, the sound of my new 5 series 2004 sounds much much better. Less louder but my jazz sound GREAT. GREAT bass.

i built the box myself to exact jl spec out of 1" mdf and the 1001x is conservatively rated at 1000wattsx1rms into 2 ohms, but the jl is a single voice coil 3 ohm sub so its probably getting about 750-900 watts of power which it handles with ease. anyway you should be able to get the box built by any reputable audio retailer for between $200-300 because of the thickness of the mdf and its quite a bit of work.

I, too, want to improve the quality and volume of the standard fit (i.e. no-cost option) stereo.

I'm in the UK, and I've not really been able to find any info that leads me to believe that this is a project that could be undertaken without major rework on the car.

Does anyone have any info ? What options do I have ? Can I add amps ? What about custom-fit speakers ? Subs ?

An audio forum was mentioned - where is it exactly ?
