Any advice on which radar detector to get?

have you tried detectors side by side in that scenario?
Very very basically speaking, a detector works by creating a radar-like signal then comparing it to the signals it receives. If you place multiple powered on detectors close to each other the false alert filtering circuitry in them will become "bogged down" with the radar-like signals emitted from the other detector and will not alert the same to true radar as it would if it were not near another detector, it is too busy filtering the noise out.
The best way to compare the range is to find a radar signal, ideally a true radar speed trap, drive by it and reset your tripometer when you get an alert. All of the high-end detectors from Bel, Escort, and Valentine offer similar detection range, it is the other features that really set them apart. Some like the arrows on the V1, others enjoy the anti-falsing of the Escort and Bel GPS detectors, while some can be at ease with the STi's stealth ability. If you are in a camera area then the GPS detectors from Bel and Escort are your only all-in-one solution.
BTW all Escort and Beltronics detectors will track up to 8 multiple radar signals while simultaneously displaying the strengths for each. They can also be set to show the actual frequency received for the real geeks!

Oh yeah. I thought this forum and especially this thread may appreciate that Escort is sponsoring the debut effort of the Rahal-Letterman BMW factory-supported M3 team in the American LeMans Series (ALMS) GT2 class this year!

GT2 is a crazy competitive field. I can't wait to see how the factory backed BMW does in their first year in ALMS!
