In my experience the service centers aren't very interested in suspension modifications. The most they are interested in, and barely at that, is selling the parts in the official BMW catelog, such as wheels, etc.
Hamann seems to usually be the first to come out with suspension mods and body kits, etc.

How's about you don't get indignant only an hour after you post a question.

Frankie 439, Well check H&R and Eibach web pages...if they make a spring for your car then it can belowered and any performance shop should be able to install them.. i will do install them for you but im not responsible for left over pieces

Wow. Thanks for all the sarcasm guys. I think my main question was can an xi be lowered using springs/shocks similar to a non-xi model? I wasn't sure if the xi had some sort of setup that would prevent one from lowering the car at all. I'm aware that so far, no one makes springs for the car. I just wanted to know if, in theory, an xi could be lowered without interfering with the all-wheel drive functionality.
Thanks.

oh, and Don Juan, I'll be sure to send you my membership fee, straight up cash. Is that cool?

It will be possible, Hamann make kits for 330ix, X5, X3. I don't see any reason why it will not by done for 5 series.
