It seems that a number of my more enterprising compatriots are adding sunflower oil @ 80 centimes/litre on a 50/50 basis to their diesel motors. It works well, apparently and one is supposed to advise the French fiscal authorities of the quantity of non mineral added so that the appropriate taxes may be charged
Has anyone dared to try on their E60 diesels ???

Seems like we can't win.
The particulate filter is there to comply with Euro IV emission regulations I believe. This is a positive step, and helpful for the environment. And it means the exhausts on the oil-burners can be straight instead of curving down to the road, making them look better - a positive step. Is it true that the exhaust is now cleaner than the air going into the engine?
Not being able to make use of bio diesel is a shame, as this would be another positive step. Do you know why it harms the filter? Are there alternatives that wouldn't?

Finnish oil company Neste is building 170 000 Tons a year bio diesel refinery. This will use all kind of bio oils and fat including sunflower oils, animal fat etc. Already some European car/truck/engine manufacturers have aproved this product.
Neste claims that they bio diesel is better than mineral based and can be used mix or 100%.
They are also made agreement with Total to build similar plant to France.
