I finally had my AFE CAI installed this morning. I went ahead with the High Performance, Blue Filter, even though there was talk of the oil causing build up on the MAF sensor.

All I can say is WOW! It's a shame the car doesn't come this way to begin with. It's hands down ANOTHER great addition to the peformance of the car. The car pulls better, breathes better and it sounds AMAZING!

I've attached some pix and a video clip. However, I might do a clip on the outside of the car. Not sure if this video does it justice.

Let me know what you think.

Enjoy!

/C

PS - No high heels this time, so don't go looking for it in the clip.

I tried it myself the other night and was able to get the stock airbox out, along with the MAF sensor, but couldn't get the rear stock, intake tube off the throttle body. I couldn't get far enough back there. I stopped, put all the stock parts back and decided to wait and have it done in an actual shop. (Last thing I needed, was to drop a screw driver down in the engine bay).

I took it to a local guy and he did the whole job in 45 minutes. He charged me $50, which I thought was great.

Freaking sweet... I kind of want to get it.. but don't know if I want to use all the money for just an intake.

so how much was total for you?

Also, since my car is a 2004 530i, I think they would have to customize it to fit my year... bah.

Looks & sounds great but ahh.......where does the 'cold air' from, is there something that directs the outside air into the box?

The AFE CAI uses the same air duct as the stock unit. As others have said in the past, with the hood closed a seal is created to prevent the hot air from the engine going into the CAI.

Is a drop-in K&N filter inferior to this type of setup.....and if so, why.
