The only pro there is, is the sound. Everything else is a con, con, con, con.

You will loose a lot of power, ESPECIALLY once the weather warms up down here in Florida.
Eugene even gave his away for free...

i can find about a dozen sets in socal that they are giving away for free!

Meister22 you've been around long enough to know that the AFE intakes will result in a loss of power.
unless you are bored and want to start another long AFE thread, just stick with your stock box, get the RPI
scoops and BMI drop in filter.

wow, but I didn't know it was actually that bad...

I asked everywhere I go, and in all these bodyshops they swear it increases hp, even on every website. Isn't that like false advertising??

I even found Dynos that have 6 hp gain, are these fakes??

Please pitch in more, I wanna find out more.

p.s. srry if thread gets too long

Here's how they get that 6HP gain: They put the car on the dyno with the hood open and do a single run. The reason they only make a single run is because every single run after that will yield HP loss. The engine bay get's heat soaked after the first couple of runs and the filter loses efficiency. So they do make 6HP gains, for the first mile you drive the car...so it's not considered false advertising...

with all open air/cone intakes they may show an initial power gain when the engine is cool. But when the engine is hot, the cones draw the hot air from the engine bay. if you were to race another car, would you tell ask them to hold on until your engine cools down? wouldn't you want your engine to provide power when asked? why do you think manufacturers such as lamborghini, porsche, ferrari, bmw etc don't use a open air/cone intake?

the reason why all top sports car manufactures use an enclosed plastic air box is to draw in cool air, not hot air from the engine bay

So how much hp do you really lose by adding these so called "upgrade"??

And you said something about the sound, is the sound good???

The sound is really nice... a higher pitched sound of air being drawn in. Sounds pretty nice...but it's not worth it...the hotter the car the more power you loose, and once the summer kicks in down here...you'll be begging someone to rip that POS out of your engine bay.
