Hey guys,

I just picked up the latest issue of European Car magazine. In it, they discuss different bolt-on options for an M5 to increase power. One of the products they discussed is the aFe CAI. They noted that on the first couple of runs on the dyno, they experienced a loss in HP/TQ. After a few more runs, the HP/TQ did increase over stock. They attributed it to the ECU adjusting itself to accomodate for the increase in air flow. They weren't 100% on this, however.

I know there have been numerous posts regarding this product, and the consensus is that it is not a recommended mod for our cars (or at least the non M). My question is does it only provide an increase in performance for the M cars? And if so, why is that? In the article, they mentioned they were surprised to see a decrease in performance after increasing the air flow. I would assume this to be true for any car. I should add the CAI was installed after a Powerchip ECU tune. HP went from 451 to 457 (ECU tune to CAI). TQ went from 338 to 340 (ECU tune to CAI).

Please educate me. Thank you!

This exact topic has been discussed and the magazine article you're referring to included in the thread discussion as well.

It's just a matter of searching for the thread ...

The topic of this POS intake has been beaten to death in thread and thread. A number of members installed it and then removed it due to its significant loss of power.
