Anyone installed the OEM spoiler by themselves or seen it done? I got one pre-painted from BMW along with a box containing some glue and instructions. The instructions claim that one should sand the contact points on the spoiler, throw the glue on there, then tape the spoiler down on the car for a few hours. I have two concerns though. First, I don't understand how the glue can bond to the painted surface of the car, but I'll take this on faith. Second, it seems that the ends of the spoiler need to be bent down with some force in order to hug the trunk lid completely. Even taped down until the glue cures, I'm skeptical that they won't pop off when the tape is removed.
The alternative is of course to have a body shop do it. The dealer won't touch it, but the body shop is saying that since it's pre-painted they won't warranty the work for me. I don't have a quote from them yet but I expected several hundred dollars.
Any advice? Originally I thought that the spoiler would be removable, but I assume that the glue is going to eat through the paint on the car in order to bond. Argh...
