Got my M5 mirrors the other day..........very pleased. They are currently in Sapphire Black, and need a paint job to Carbon Black.
I have managed to remove the glass, and also the lower (black) housing.
My question is should I dismantle the remaining body parts (Base plate / Main Housing / Outer ring) into their constituent parts and get them painted separately. This would seem to me the best thing to do to get a perfect paint finish. And then just put it back together once its all painted and dryed.
I have managed to remove the outer ring, but still need to remove the base plate from the main housing.........presumably this would leave the main metal part of the mirror and the main cable............If anyone has done this I'd be interested in knowing your experiences/tips.
Thanks.

Yes. Dismantle the mirror into it's individual parts. Before I took delivery of mine from quad_m, I requested that he dismantle the mirror for a more complete paint job.
