when you buy the actual M5 gills, the center piece of the gills comes out, pop it out and you can flip the gills backward and use it as a template. trace and cut but go only about 2 inch and stop because as you cut the fender heats up and itll warp the fender so you have to allow time to cool down. I use a dremel to do the job. I was able to
do the cut without repainting the fenders, but one mistake and you're screwed. Lastly to finish the imperfection once the gills are in and locked, with its self attach clips,
i tape around it and leaving only 1mm space and use urethane from a tube, wear a glove wet the fingers in water and spread like peanut butter and you will have a slick finish. only different between mine and the actual m5 is that , the m5 fenders gills dips in a hair, mine doesnt cave in but is perfectly flush. So be familiar with body work
before attempt or let a body shop do it. thank you for your input
oh by the way last note if anyone attempt this mod once you cut open the fender before you stick the gills in you have to cut behind the fender there is a apron lip
that will be the way, that apron lip wont allow you to install the gills, chop some of that off and you should be good.
i had to use a cutting wheel to chop some off and then i had to chop some plastic behind my gills to fit it in right.

Thanks for info..You have done a great job..However I may just get an old Toyota guard and have a practise first ...as you say an expensive screw up if you slip.
Did you get your grills from the stealers ? How much in the USA.? I have seen them on Ebay. BMW here in NZ wants like $300 each side. Thanks again for your detailed description. Cheers

yes i got them off ebay at the time they were 200 for both side, now i see them going for 200 and 89 dollars for the actual ones.
the 89 dollars one looks exactly like the 200 i dont know the different yet you might have to ask the guy who is selling it.
good idea use an old toyota fender to practice first once mastered it then you can attempt the actual fender. i bought it in
usa, thanks for the comment stevie, hope project goes well for you if you decide.

Thanks quan...for all your help..Yes I spotted those grills for $89 also after our first PM ...so will question who made them, no doubt a chinese knock-off. But that is not necessarily all bad ...much cheaper than $300 a side here. Once done will post photos ...just hope mine look half as as good as yours..BTW measured a M5's guard yesterday to get the correct placement so I'm on the way to the big cut out...Cheers.

What resistor size did you use to remove the fog light error?? I was told to try 65 watt 50 ohm, but I can't find those anywhere.

well i was gonna go with the resistor set up to take the lamp off but , instead i plug up the old fog light ( bulb only)
and wraped it up under my head light area so no water and dirt can get to it, ( just gotta remember not to turn on
the fog light ) i havent seen any lamp out light since.
