Able to lower a 530xi?

I've come to learn that the Sport Package on the xi does not include a dropped suspension. That sucks, but I understand it is for AWD purposes. However, I don't see why I still couldn't drop it 1/2" or so, with the appropriate springs. Does anyone know the answer? Does the fact that the car is an "xi" prevent me from dropping it slightly?
