I really hate to make this post without a sound clip for you guys (and a couple gals) but I don?t have one available right now. At any rate I chained (home depot special) open the exhaust valve and liked the sound?so off I went to my local high-end muffler shop to have the valve removed. The gentleman there suggested that rather than cutting it out and inserting a new small piece of pipe?we should simply weld it open?well that took all of 30 secs and now my pipe is open (see pic).

While the car was up on the lift I was looking at the two sets of resonators before the mufflers and figured I?d remove one set of them as well (see pic). I?ve had similar resonators removed from Audi?s in the past and knew from experience that the sound only would increase slightly.

The result is that the car is slightly more throaty?no drone?nothing ?loud? just a little more authoritative sounding?just exactly what I wanted.

Not bad since some of the after market exhausts run over $1k.

Yeah for $65.00 I'm quite pleased...actually based on the results I would be pleased if it was 10x that amount

I too had my resonator removed and man does it sound much better. Especially when you have an aftermarket exhaust with it. :wow: ch7656, are u planning on getting an aftermarket exhaust? :))

I understand removing the resonators, but what do you replace them with....just some random straight pipe from the muffler shop?

Oh and what shop did you go to?

Does the resonator or exh valve have any effect on back pressure, and have you noticed any engine faults or any other repercussions as a result of the mod? Positive or negative aside from the nice sound.

WHEN IS SOMEONE GOING TO POST A SOUND CLIP!?!?!?!? :wow:

PNice972 10-29-2004 05:53 PM

Wow, interesting, hope someone can get a sound clip up.
