Hi All,

I have my car in at the dealership getting some maintenance done. While talking things over with the service guy, I found out that Dinan has released their engine software upgrade for my car and the bi-turbo 3 series as well. Apparently it modifies the boost for the turbo up and gives you somewhere around 80hp and an equally large increase in torque.

I'm seriously contemplating telling them to pull the trigger on this and was wondering if anyone else on the forum has done this mod yet.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I did this upgrade in my old '97 528i (3 cars ago - wow) and found it quite noticeable but didn't play around with my two 530i's ('04 and '06).

Thanks!

How much are they charging?

80HP seems like alot of gain from a tune...
That sounds like it would be something I would consider

Let us know how you like it if you do indeed decide to "pull the trigger"

Dinan is very expensive, but does not void your warranty. if you search this forum, or bimmerfest.com, you will find a ton of reading material. Vishnu tunings PROcede chip adds the same HP, but will void warranty if discovered (cheaper). There is also the Jukebox which adds 40 HP for +/-$400. There's lots to consider. Good Luck.

I am sitting on the sidelines waiting for more feedback. I will probably spend the extra money and go with the Dinan option because of a perceived(?) higher quality. I also like the reputation and warranty. Keep us posted if you go ahead with it.

You will be covered by Dinan's warranty but any modification like this would indeed void BMW's warranty if it were found to be the cause of a problem. There have been a number of posts on this recently. In the case of the OP I'd only be concerned by one thing which is the XI suspension and all-season tires - I'm not sure I would be 100% comfortable running the additional power and torque through a non-sport setup (which essentially is the basis for an XI sport).

Didn't I hear a rumor about BMW itself coming out with a chip?? Anyone else hear about this or has any details?? (Or was I daydreaming?)

PROcede will not void your warranty, if discovered.....Also, it's Juicebox, not Jukebox.

Interesting...I too am considering the Dinan upgrade for my '08 535i. Sure did feel comfortable speaking with my dealers' "Dinan Expert" and knowing that I still would have warranty (by Dinan) and if my BMW dealer installs it...I'm assuming they would stand behind their work and/or deal with Dinan on my behalf should anything run amiss...what price were you quoted for the Dinan upgrade?
