which tune were you looking at getting?
Most popular chip/piggy back tunes

JB3, Procede, SSTT, JB+

for an engine/ecu flash...you have powerchip, dinan, and ESS

***I would suggest spending some time on e90posts.com and/or n54tech.com

haven't seen a 535xi, just i's with tunes....

^edited my original post...

that 390 was probably not tune alone, nor was it on a 535...most likely a 335....335i's can be fitted with more extra's to increase the boost/performance unlike the 535

Each type, piggyback or reflash has its pros and cons. The price range is huge as well, from about $500 to $2000. I chose the stage II ECU reflash from Dinan which is $2000. I chose it because it mirrors BMW's 4yr/50,000 mile warranty, I felt they did the most testing, they did things like reprogramed the coolant pump to run faster to deal with the extra heat. When I got mine back Jan/Feb 2008 all of the top choices had around the same HP/trq, now I think a few have more.
The key thing is to pick one and get it, you will love it.

Not to side track the tread but how do you like the stage II? Does fuel economy in day to day driving change much?

I have no clue- but even after 21 months of driving it, I still get excited.
Seriously, since a turbo motor is like having a variable displacement motor the gas milege has still got to be better than the 4.8 liter 550. The majority of the time I am consuming the gas of a 3.0 liter motor and less often consuming gas of a 5.2 liter motor.
