Yeah, you guys are absolutely correct. Intercooler takes care of cooling the air which is heated up from the compressor. The temp at the air filter on a turbo car is only marginally important.
I had 545 on my mind from a previous post about a CAI on it.

Guys i installed the dual cone K&N filters in 15 minutes. It's pretty simple and what a great mod!
Terry said it takes a day or 2 to adjust. From the test drive i did tonight, i noticed stock like performance when cruising but when i punch my car above 3000+ rpm i can hear the dual cone filters sucking a whole lot of air which is a good thing BTW. This is more like a wooshing sound from the turbo spool. More observations to come...
If you're local, I can offer my help to install this intake on your car. If you're interested to do this mod, you can get the coupler from burgertuning.com for $26 and the K&N filter model # RU0640 @ AutoZone, Kragen, or Pep Boys for $36.99 each.

I?ve read the entire thing and i must ask, did you already had turbo cars and mod them?
I?ve had a TT 1.8 180hp and modiffied it to 300 hp.
EVERY and single one intakes i tried, K&N, Viper,BMC CDA were BAD!
The stock filter was good for about 350hp, so i ask for how much is the 35i good?
What happens is normally this:
Better initial rpm range, slower mid and high,
Slower initial power, better mid range, slower high range.
Slower initial power, slow mid range, good high range!
Why is that? heat. That heat that some of you say that in a Turbo car is not harmful. And i know because the place where i am from is hot!
I?ve seen tests and tests and tests and for sure that in the great majority of cases, what you get is a better sound and worst power!
It is like the straight through exhausts.
If you do them on a stock car you will for sure loose power...but try them on those Supras with 1000bhp and it is a totally different story!
But i don?t kow the 35i that well to say these things...i just know the cars that have passed trough my house and that not one remained stock...
And for that i did a lot of research, because when the time comes to sell...well you know how sellers are....
Not intending to be rude! Enjoy the mod...
