I know the car's only been available for a few months, but does anyone have any strong comments on tuning the 535d?
Common logic with diesels suggests up to 25% increase potentially available, but as this car has too much torque for the manual box how far could it be tuned before the steptronic gives up the ghost?

I picked mine up last weekend so I'm only still runing it in. I honestly don't think it's worth chipping it as the car is so fast as it is, I still haven't exceeded 2500rpm yet either. I traded in an M3 to get mine and I really believe that in real world driving the 535d is as quick, you have to thrash an M3 to get the extra performance.

Same basic engine. Probably more boost from the turbo though. If that's the case, then tuning will probably get an extra 10% over a tuned 530d. I doubt you'd get as much as 25%.
A tuned 535d is obviously going to put more stress on the engine/gearbox. I doubt that it'd be too much though.

[/quote]I'll keep an eye on that. I was perhaps hoping for a tuning box type device which could be removed prior to the car going in for a service - did you have any problems taking your e39 to the dealer with the superchip?
How's the car! Any more pics?

Sorry no more pics....she dirty now! Its funny I usually like them that way
And no, I had my old car serviced twice with the re-mapped chip no probs. However E60 seems to be a lot more sophisticated computer wise. Again a reason to wait and see how people get on maybe.

I've had my car for just over a year now and in that time the i-drive software has been upgraded twice which means the dealer will have accessed the car's memory. From what I gather following my engine failure they diagnosed the fault through the computer diagnostic plug in so I assume that they would be able to detect a remap whilst carrying out either diagnostic or reprogramming work.
That's worth considering if you intend to chip your car as you will almost certainly require an i-drive software upgrade during the warranty period. Version 15 is just around the corner and that won't be the last upgrade by a long shot. My dealer told me today that they receive upgrades now on a monthly basis.

I have been told that most remaps are undectable by bmw diagnostics.
Ray at West Tuning told me that they have being the undectable rempa on bmw diesels for a few years and theyve never come across where the remap has been deleted.
