Hi all,
Just got home after having my car recoverd off the motorway...
It would apprear that my turbo has failed on a car with only 44k miles on the clock - is this usual?
The turbo is rattling with no power being available above 1500 rpm will plooms of smoke from the exhaust.
Would appriciate some advise on replacing the turbo!
Should this be dealt with by a main dealer only or could a competent local garage take on the repair?
Do you think i should purchase a reconditoned turbo or risk a second hand one?
Any advise would be appriciated - as i'm sure this is going to be an expenisive job.

I am not sure if this is common or not but when searching for a 530d for myself, one of the potential cars I went to view had a brand new turbo fitted under warranty - same issue as yours.
I was also told that when the turbo screws up, a pool of oil gets washed down the whole exhaust system - which meant that the whole exhaust system including CAT had to be replaced.
Sorry to make your already terrible situation worse....i don't suppose your car is under warranty by any chance?
If not then try your hardest to fight with BMW to get it done for free - but it is likely to be one heck of a battle though
Good Luck.
