Now it's done!

I drove to Belgium last thursday and Kempower company took my car in Friday around 11am tie it on the rolls and ready we were.

First, of course, original values were checked and then motor control unit out and remove the chip.

Chip it self.Notice that chip is AMD from year 1999. Injection was increased, speedlimitter likewise and torq limitter set to 700Nm.

New map in (program run in Windows XP, basicly hex editor) and testing.

And this is result.

Car is amazing! Acceleration improved (IMHO) a lot, now 80-120kph is about 5 sec. Sadly they did not have any timers in so could not get any real figures. But if we think that 545 have 333hp and 450 Nm, I have now 311hp and 693Nm. I recon I'm little faster IMO . I should test it with timer. or head to head. Because of Fred we did not have time for that in Belgium!

I also got that speed limiter moved higher, but I had not long enough empty road Sunday morning.

I have 6-speed manual but this should not be proble, because BMW have 1,7 marging in manuals and 2,0 in auto transmissions. Kempower has done more than 30 530d's and so far no problems.

They were amazed when original walues were 247hp and 624Nm. This was surpricing to all and they were very suspicious and wanted to calibrate dyno again. Still after that same result!

They told that June upgraded 530d should be in production and that should have similar figures. They liked to have my original chip because it had unique serial number and Kempower have good relationships to Munich (they have worked in several engine projects with BMW motorsport) , they like to talk about this with Munich. Of course it can be that I just happend to have very good unit.

Hey Skaffa that's fantastic. 25% gain in power and 11% gain in torque.

Your standard figures do sound very high but the % gain is what's important. You mentioned in a previous post that the process could be reversed how is this possible if there is no piggy back unit connected in series?
How did they remove the AMD chip with all of those legs soldered to the PCB?

Well done and enjoy the extra power, I certainly do!!!

They have full electrical workshop. All what is needed for this kind of work. I have half an hour video what I try to process and put it somewhere to look at.

To reverse this old chip have to put back or new modify to match old. Totally half and hour job. If I understand anything, this mod can not be detected directly without looking in that chip or undirectly testing torque or injection amounts. IMHO

Here's a question for people.

Why do I always only see upgrades for the 530d, and not the 535d?? I've looked at quite a few tuning sites. Can they get more % out of the 530d??

My helpers opinnion was that you can't get much more power but it will last longer.

e.g. I have 200hp with around 4680 rpm in 535d it should have 250 at least in the same point. Engine is same and to get "longer" curve you need bigger turbo what 535d have. With big turbo you loose lower end power and that's why small turbo is good, again 535d has this too!

535d has 500 rpm more before limitter...

Of course it newer, but I have seen already boxes for that.

I'll happily do a run with you at the UK meet to act as a benchmark - should be fun!!!!

With the gearing and high rev power of the 545i I reckon I'll have a neck in front!

Should be interesting though!

Jonboy - I won't be at the meet, but we're close enough to be able to do a 535d vs 545i comparison once my car is run in - and before I get it custom mapped.....

535d is a new model. Only in production since September/October. So the tuners either won't have one to work on yet, or haven't updated their websites yet.

I'm sure you will see offerings for 535d soon enough.
