Just found E60 Forum - nice site ! Its good to find others that share my obsession.
I have a MY03 530d with downturned tail-pipes an I have noticed that late MY04 models now have straight chrome tail-pipes due to meeting the latest Euro emissions standards.
My questions are :
o Can you retrofit this ?
o Would this invalidate warranty ?
o Would you want to ? i.e. end up with black marks on you bumper.

My Ride: Oxford Green E60 530D with tuning box and all the toys!
I thought the point was that the particulate emissions on the older diesels necessitated the exhausts pointing to the ground to prevent much of the crud spewing into the atmosphere. I don't know how effective that is in keeping the air clean though.
The bumper is cut away where the exhaust comes out so there are no black marks.
But why would you want to retrofit this anyway?

I prefer the look of the chrome pipes.

I know a friend of mine who has a 530D MY2004 and he asked for crome pipes.
BMW answered it is possible by adding a new terminal exaust pipe with additional filter ( so you get a EURO 4 car). Price for the job all included: around 1000Euro.

Too right.. E$1000 is far too much - I will look into the ACS option.
