Hello people,
Before chipping my 520d I had searched the forums to find some before and after acceleration time figures. I could not find any so I decided to do a test myself and here are the results.
(By the way the car has 7000 km on the clock. I dont know how loosened up the engine is at that mileage.)
Before chipping the 520d, early in the morning, on an empty highway I put the car in M3 going 80 km/h and floored it all the way to 180 km/h. It took 30 sec to get to 180km/h. (My Peugeot 406 3.0sv did the same test (but starting out in 2. gear) in 15 sec) Next I dropped to 70km/h in DS mode and punched it. I started the stopwatch when the needle hit 80. With the boost kicked in the time was 27.3 sec.
After having the car superchipped and driving it normal for several hundred km. I went back to the same highway and did the same test over again. Wow!!! My first test starting in M3 the time was around 19.5 sec. Next I started out at 70km/h in DS with full boost the 80-180 time was 17.2 sec. We are talking about a 10 sec. gain!!
Thats a pretty good time for 2lt diesel. I hope these accelaration times will give you an idea of the difference the additional 30hp and 80nm torque.
To all those 535d owners out there.... Please dont show off with your 22sec 0-200km/h times etc. I am not bragging here, I just wanted to satisfy my own curiosity.
But I would like to see your results of similar 80-180 test if you can find an empty stretch of highway with no cops on it.
Y'all drive friendly now.
