As some of you know I was due for a DMS upgrade today. http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=25867

I drove in horrible rain from London to Andover to get this done and now I'm a proud owner of a 520D SE DMS e60. What a difference it makes to the car I got over 53 mpg on the way back which shows that something has changed! The car seems a lot more responsive and powered now, almost seems like a 530D now. Note: Being a 4 cyl it doesn't seem as refined as a 530D. But the difference is amazing. The car is still quite new so hopefully as it opens up a bit I'll have more fun with this.

However the journey to DMS was most distressful. I was sitting in a traffic jam on the motorway and got pushed off the hard shoulder by a police car trying to get to an accident. Unfortunately my left 2 wheels got stuck in the pebbles off the motorway and the rear tyres spun and are now the 2 wheels are completely rashed as a result
I was really beginning to loose it when a god sent 4*4 appeared from nowhere and offered to tow me out on to the road. Don't know what I would have done without them because the rescue service would have taken about 2-3 hours to get to me given the traffic.

The journey onwards to Andover seemed to suggest the car was handling differently. Either it was my head playing games, the road was very wet and/or the wind was making the car sway but something was different. What could be wrong? Any suggestions of what to look for?

I don't know what other damage is done to the car but I haven't started my week well. Also what's the best place to get my wheels fixed.

Do you think I should get my 3 week old 530D DMSed. I'm impressed with it (only 800 miles) and can't think what the difference would be like

Are the wheels covered in mud, almost, if you excuse the expression, as if they've taken a mouthful of grass and mud? If so, you'll find the wheel balance way off and that may be what you're experiencing. Something similar happened to me and once I've taken the wheels off the car and give the a thorough washing all was fine.

Don't understand how the police car pushed you off the hard shoulder

If they were driving inconsiderately can't you approach them to cover the repair

Just a thought, there more than keen to relieve us of our money maybe a little reciprocal is required.

I've thought of calling them but then they may ask me the number of the police car etc and I don't have all the details. Besides it was not for 5 minutes after the police car passed did I realise I couldn't get out of the mess I got myself into.

Will be getting mine done soon. Where can most of the difference be felt? Lower or high rpm - what speeds. Yeah think your the first on here thats taken the DMS route on the 520d. Others have chips etc.

You mentioned refinement, has the remap affected this?

Did it take ya long getting there? (how much it set you back?)

Cheers

Hmmm... AFAIK, the "DMS route" *IS* a chip!

They quoted me ?750 inc VAT as a forum member if I visited them in Andover. ?900 inc VAT as a forum member if they visit me.
