As far as I know there are no downpipes quite yet for us...but I thought I read that ultimate racing would be releasing a set soon.

Regarding loss of power due to heat soak ...this has been dis-proven with data logging. Unlike na cars which ingest ambient air directly... with turbo cars the turbos ingest the air and heat it quite a bit then the intercooler(s) come into play reducing the temps before the motor itself ingests the air.

This topic has been revisited several times at n54tech...

Also, dyno testing has been done many times and proven a power increase with an open style air filter like the bms single or dual intakes over say the stock air box with a k&n. With high boost maps the air box actually creates a restriction in the air getting to the turbos while the open filters simply flow more.

i know several vendors are makin' downpipes for the 335, but not sure if it'll fit the 535.

as far as the BMS intake, you don't feel any low end torque loss with all that heat soak?

I'm in.
5 Thirty 5's unite for better mods!
Oh no, this is going to cost me.
What is there... 6 of us?

we need more unity!

Sad when I'm almost at the point where I have more money than mods available (did I just say that?). I always prefer to spend my money on performance parts rather than aesthetics, but I quickly ran out of performance options and now I'm almost done with the aesthetics (soon as I get my M5 mirrors, and lighting I'll be out of things I want to do for awhile. I think) Of course something will pop up, it always does. I just need little things to keep me busy so that I keep my mind off of buying a BBK. Must not spend crazy money on brakes just because I want to look at drilled and slotted rotors. My car stops fine!

we need to get the attention of vendors/tuners to start producing more for our cars. recently, i've noticed a lot more 535's out on the streets. whereas several months ago, i would go weeks w/o seeing one.
Companies most likely don't see much incentive to R&D parts for the 535i, since the new 5-series is about a year away. With the 535i only being a 2 year model run. You will most likely only get parts from the 135i/335i, if they can transfer over.

Interesting, in light of the recent AFE fiasco. Any supporting details?

very. i'd like to see a dyno shootout between a stock box vs. an open air intake with multiple runs.

Trust me with this heat soak issue I was skeptical too..but with our turbo cars when the boost is increased the real enemy as far as the air intake goes is any type of restriction...the turbos need to be able to freely suck the air in. There was some testing with the afe over at n54 as well but it appears that the afe suffers from the same restriction problems as the stock air box. I have no doubt that the open filters on a non-turbo 5er would have very bad results but for us we need free flow!!

The dyno below is stock air box vs dual cones vs bms single...

I had actually been reading that thread a bit. Hard part is that it seems everyone can find a dyno to support their thoughts on products it seems...I've considered that bms dual or single cone. just dunno. I never bought the AFE as I had heard about power loss in them a bit before all this blew up....How about a scoop for more air flow for our turbos like RPI is making for the V8's that help us in any way?

i have a custom RPI scoop and it works great top side. if anyone is interested, i can talk to RPI and get something going for us 535's.

let me know who's interested!

I'm in if there is truly a performance gain....
