I see sites for BMW tuning geared especially towards the 335i and it's kind of frustrating to not see it trickle down to the 535 as well. So, I see sites like Active Autowerkes and all selling intercoolers, exhaust, oil coolers, and other parts and wonder, what's the difference between that and a 535? The exhaust, I guess I can understand, the length and what not, but aside from that? Same engine doesn't mean I can use an intercooler from a 335, or any other part from a 335?

This is ridiculous. Compare the two here: http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/bmw.html

I think many of the engine specific modifications should transfer but other than that there is not as much stuff out there for the 535. I don't even know if anyone makes an upgraded intercooler.

For the 335, I believe there's the AA intercooler.

you don't have to get a 535 "specific" intercooler. There are plenty of aftermarket universal bar & plate style front mount intercoolers on the market. If you have the know-how, get one that fits, and make custom brackets to mount it. Same thing with intercooler piping. There are plenty of places that sell stainless or aluminum mandrel U-bends. Cut to fit

Hmmmm can you get it chipped? My buddy got his 335 chipped and tuned for $2K and he's not at 400whp. He also has an exhaust that I guess frees up some breathing room, but majority is the chip.

Yeah, I know about those, but a chip goes only so far. Plus, if I got the JB3, it would make sense to get the intercooler to prevent overheating, as well as an oil cooler, right?

Right. But I don't think placement of said pieces would necessarily be exactly the same. So my guess is that custom is prob the only way to go at the point.

no FMIC available for the 535i yet...335i FMIC's will not fit on the 535i....the 535i has some oil lines that get in the way of an FMIC install...unlike on the 335i....
