you might get away with 21 on an m5 since it has wider fenders. probably not a good idea on a standard e60, since you cant get as much tire around the rim.
for M5 i will go 21", for non M5 i will do 20" the most

I've seen Skeeters and 545Ace on 21s and it fits the wheel wells perfectly.
I rode in Ace's e60 and the ride wasnt bad at all.
You do need to roll your fenders with the 21s.
And if you plan on getting a steplip, 21s would be the way to go,
i've seen 20s with a steplip and it makes the face look smaller.
But then again it was a sick and deep steplip.
Anything else just looks half ass.
