I went to get a DVD (Navi Pro) upgrade disc today at my local dealer and they said BMW had told them to stop selling the upgrade discs as there were too many problems with them not working. Lots of cars had trouble reading them. This is the European DVD, not the US. So they're only able to sell the "full" discs, not the "upgrade" discs. The full one is ?290 and the upgrade is ?160. I can't imagine what the difference is with the discs themselves. Maybe just from different batches and production runs.

So if you're thinking of getting a new disc in the next month or two in europe (not sure if UK gets the same discs) it's worth waiting 6 weeks or so for the 2010 disc, that's what I'm doing.

The new 09 discs are DL discs and some of the older cars did have the software to read them. But your dealer is trying to make a buck off you by saying they have no issues with the full. The discs themselves are identical they are just packaged differently for marketing.

It might sound like that but they really didn't want me to buy the full. It was me that asked about the full. I figured that the full might cost a small amount more and when the time comes to sell my car, I'd whip the new DVD out and sell it separately, leaving the old one in. It was only when I found out it was nearly double the price I said forget that idea. The guy telling me about the alleged problem with the upgrade discs didn't want me to buy a full, it was him that suggested I wait 6 weeks or so and come back for the 2010. He wasn't even trying to offload his stock of 2009s.

Interesting, I bought the 2009-2 DVD (Business) a month ago and it worked fine in place of a 2005 disc. Just my Bluetooth stopped working; phone still pairs and I can see phone number etc, just no noise (static) or anything at either end. Taken it back to the dealership where I bought the disc and they said it?s not related as the disc won?t update anything to due with the Bluetooth. They said the ULF was showing a fault, didn?t tell me what it was, and that it would be at least ?600 to change it and then it may still not resolve the problem. Took it to a local specialist who said the ULF was faulty and my gearbox had a serious problem (happy days) but that?s another story.

Anyway does seem a bit of a coincidence that my Bluetooth failed straight after putting the new disk in.

It was the 2009-2 Pro that I was being told is faulty. It's my guess that it was just a bad production run.

You might get a better response to your BT problem starting a separate thread. You'll be limited in here to people looking in who are interested in getting a DVD upgrade. Up to you of course Btw, ?600 to fix a bluetooth problem is monumentally ridiculous. Personally, I keep my phone in my shirt top-pocket and when it rings, I press the loudspeaker button on it and drop it back into my shirt. I can continue the call perfectly well like that (hands-free) Of course I'd like to have bluetooth integration but a retrofit would be crazy money and my solution works too well to justify it.

I have the upgrade 2009-2 DVD and no problem for the moment.
Maybe just a problem with a older model (2003, 2004...)

Maybe. The BMW guy said that "a lot" of customers were having problems with the 2009-2 discs but not all of them. Glad you had no problems.
