2008 LCI non Xenon - upgrade options
#1
Dear All,
I have a one month old E61 530d M-Sports that came with the standard headlights as opposed to the Xenons that I had in my old E60. Now I find that i'm missing the colour and power of the Xenon lights (especially the dipped beam, the main beam is pretty good)
Anyone know what my options are? I imagine upgrading to OEM BMW Xenon is going to be expensive and difficult, but is there any better alternative to the standard bulbs (halogen presumably?) that BMW puts in the non-Xenon cars. If you also know a brand/reputable supplier in the UK I would be grateful.
Thanks,
Alasdair

There are many halogen bulbs with improved vision than the standard bulb installed in the car.
Try going to powerbulbs.com
Make sure to get 12v 55w, you may opt for higher wattage in order to achieve more brightness...60w and up, but such high temperature bulbs may melt your headlight housing unit.
My personal recommendation: Hoen, Philips, PowerBulbs (P. Not in any particular order cuz I feel they pretty much all look the same. They are generate yellowish white light, but much brighter than stock.
If you want blue lights, you should go with mtec, luminics, xenesis, etc., but from my experience they aren't as bright as the three I mentioned above. Their bulbs are covered with heavy blue coating, I assume that is why they appear to be so much blue, but not loses the brightness???

I have recently purchased a 2008 LCI with Xenons. Previous to this E60, I had a Z4 Coupe which did not have Xenons and I found the lights sub standard. 3 months prior to selling the car I fitted and after market Xenon kit which just simply plugs and plays into the connector used for a standard halogen bulb.
These lights are awesome and gave no warning lights on the dash as they are designed with the latest 'Self Learning' ECU's.
The lights are from www.hids4u.co.uk and are the Ultimate Set.
They retail at ?250, but you can have my 3 months old ones for ?150. They have a 2 year warranty and take between 30 mins - 1 hour to fit. It will actually take you 10 mins for the second side!
After market Xenon's are designed to be used with 'fish eye' type halogen bulbs, as the 'fish eye' controls the beam of the light. the Xenon bulbs are 6000k and give a slight blue tint
If you are interested please let me know.

Hello jcopland,
I have been looking for a HIDS4U Ultimate set to upgrade my Halogens, are you in the UK?
