What I am thinking about is putting a set of 17 X 8 rims with winter tires on a 2008 535i with the sport pkg. I just was wondering if anyone has done this or would there be any fit issues due to the stock rims being 18in. Thanks for the help.

I will have my new 535xi here in a couple weeks, it has the MSport package with 18 x 8" wheels. I have bought (on hold at dealer's) a set of 4 17 x 7.5 OEM BMW wheels to run 4 snows in winter. The 17" should be fine, just be sure offset is correct.

Thanks I just need them on for about 3 to 4 months so I do not want to buy another set of 18's.

I'm running the same wheel/tire setup as Tuco and they work great. Only down side is my winter tires are speed-limited to 210 kph. Believe it or not, over here on the A-bahn I catch myself running up against this limit quite often. The car is just so amazingly quiet the speed really sneeks up on you...

What's up guys?

I bought 4 staggered Dunlop winter sport M3 snow tires and had them installed at the dealership. The installation with force balance came out to $180. I bought the tires from tirerack and had them delivered to my house. The cost for the staggered OME size snows were $950 shipped. I have the 245-40-18 in the front and the 275-35-18 in the rear. They feel really good and hug the road like glue.

Rick -

Two main reasons I went the way I did. 1.) They use LOTS of salt where I live due to the hilly terrain and I didn't want to mess up my "good" rims. Ran chrome a little too late into the season on my other vehicle last year and nearly ruined them. 2.) If you're going to be in deep snow (like up in the Alps skiing like I am) you want a narrower tire to cut through the deeper stuff. Also, some areas require snow chains and with wider tires, you might damage the wheel wells.

Bottom line...the choice is situational dependent...
