Hi all.

I am going to get my new 07 520da on Thursday, and the chip is lying here, waiting to be used
With it, I am going to get 200 horse power, and 418 newton.

My concern is, will the gearbox (and other parts connected) hold up against this power?
I figured, if it really has the same box as 525, witch has over 200hp, everything is just fine.

If not, I am a bit concerned. Should I be?
The chip is named "DTK Bosch 2".

I appreciate your help.

I was going to tune my 520d but since my car is serviced at the main BMW dealership, I'm afraid it'll show up in the computer as being used even if I take it off before servicing.... Don't wanna screw up my warranty...

my guess would be that diesels, with greater torque and lower peak revs, would have completely different ratios than a gas engine of similar hp output. thus the transmission components are probably stronger than one for a gas engine. depending on the model demand ratio bmw engineers might decide to have one transmission that works for all models, meaning the gearbox would hold up for the 550 or even the M5 output..with differences being in the final drive ratio and clutch materials..

this is all speculation, of course.

Wow, is this possible? Can anyone confirm?

That is what I hope for. Does anyone know? If it is exactly the same box, there should be no problem in chiptuning the engine(?).

I would like to independently confirm this as well. What my tech friend told me was that anything hooked up is recorded into the car's computer history so BMW could trace it to some 'outside tuning box' although they wouldn't know which one.

So his advice to me was to wait out the warranty period before modding engine stuff....

I was also thinking of getting a software tuning but as I said in my previous post, my car is serviced by the main Taipei BMW service center so.....

Unless I start taking the car to an outside shop but it seems that the main BMW service center knows what they're doing -- and charging an arm and a leg! LOL
