I think I read that the reason for using the tuned down 3.0 liter as a 525 is that the quality of the gasoline in the US is such that the 2.5 liter creating 218 HP would have issues with that, hence the tuned down 3 liter.

the Shrike
Ok, i m convinced. I was wrong

Bmw4life listen up,
First of all your 525 is not a 3 liter engine but a 2.5, the 530 is indeed a 3 liter engine so changing the Ecu's of the cars is crap. But you can remap your 525 and it will deliver u about 15 extra hp. But dont think your car will go like a rocket, it will just be driving a little more responsive.
I came out of an E46 M3 so i know what u mean, i went back from 343hp to 218hp. But were talking about totally different cars so i dont think u should compare your previous cars with your current.
The 530 might be a little faster but still isnt a race car so my advice is, just keep the car and enjoy what it is made for, cruising.
But if you really want the car the become faster i would go for the 3.3 hamann engine upgrade. I dont know where u from so dont know if u can have it fixed there but here in Europe u can do it in the UK or in Germany. Then u will even kick the 530's ass, bigtime.
Not to say your wrong, but I thought in the 07 models, they put the 3.0L engine it???

No the 525i IS a 3.0 liter engine maybe in Holland its different but here in the US its 3.0. I copied and paste this directly from BMWUSA.com

"Powered by a smooth, 3.0-liter, 215-hp engine, the 2007 525i delivers the kind of show-stopping performance you?ve come to expect of a 5 Series?and then some. With a spirited new design, roomier interior, and state-of-the-art handling and safety systems, the 525i offers more of what drivers have come to love about the 5 Series. At a supremely attractive price."
SWEET CAR, I wish mine could be like yours

Hi People. Do you think you might be confusing the diesels and the petrols here? Im not sure about the new 525 petrol line up but i know the the 525d, the 530d and 535d all run the 3.0 litre unit with the 535d running twin turbos.

So it is very possible that the new 525 petrol is running the old 530 lump. BMW love doing stuff like this. You may well find that the old 2.5 lump is in the 523 which has just been launched as they have revised the big five series this year.

Infact i would probably stake money on it. They did a similar thing with the old 5 series.

Has for the best 5 series for money.... Yeah the M5 is awesome and I may save enough pennies next year, but at the time being ive just seen a 545 up for 15,500. Your talking 50k+ new. It had the sports suspension and spec was amazing. Not to mention a 0-60 of 5.7 seconds(auto), yes 5.7 from an auto. I also reckon that get it on a motorway and it will eat an e46 M3 due to the fact its a V8, and not only any v8, but a BMW.

But to be honest mate any 5 series is a quality car. It always has been the best in its league no matter what engine was in it. However if you wanted speed with economey you should of saved for the 530d with 231 BHP. They are brilliant and would recomend it highly.

If it is a 3.0L lump you can no doubt tune it. On the old 5 series I belive it was a simpe ecu change, but they may well of changed other thing you dont know about. For example on the old 528 in 1998 they added twin vanos, things like that are impossible to change due to cost so do your research.

Anyway ive sed enough, Peace out.

06 and 07 525i has 3.0l engine.

IMHO don't waste your money doing the ECU remap. If you would like your car to 'feel' faster, just change the mufflers of your car. Otherwise, buy an EVO 8/9 or wrx STI.

Hi, guys, I've made my way up to the bmw line with a brand new 07 bmw 525i, previous cars include e46 330i, m3, and the x3. I love bmw, but I have questions about my new car. I figured this would be the best way to figure it out. I just bought my car two weeks ago, thinking that the 525i would save me good gas mileage and a decent commuter car, now Im having second thoughts on if I should have gotten a 530 for the extra money to have that 255hp instead of 215hp. I can see they are both 3.0L engines, but what if I were to maybe lets say put in the 530i ecu into mine and achieve the same power??? could it be possibly done cause I have a friend thats says it can be done, but he says a lot of things.

Please let me know, as Im wanting more power, or should i just slap on a supercharger???? give me some list of options. thanks.

You have no chance for supercharger, because they have not release one for any of the valvetronic engines yet, and I think they won't do shortly, (next 2-3 years) due to their magnesium engine block and their sensitive valve system to forced induction tuning. Now we live the "gold era" of M54 engine supercharging (3.0L Dual Vanos/no valvetronic) They managed to force it @ 11 Psi, producing 400 Hp, working like a charm, without any stability/durability problems.

My break-in period is almost over, Need options please.

Why not get a custom turbo set up? I'm sure there are plenty of people in So Cal who can make you one to fit the car.

You cant compare a bmw to evo or a subaru impreza. My god what plant are you on. There poorly built, dont hold there- money and dont handle anything like the big german machines.

If its too slow buy another bmw - with a bigger engine.
