I'm asking for a friend:
The car is a pre-LCI and has Bi-Xenons with curb lights and hi-beam assistance.

Do the inner halogens burn simultaneously in hi-bean with the Xenons or are they only for flashing?
Does the hi-beam assistance need dark enough environment?
(Over here it's not now dark even in the night!)

My previous pre-LCI E60 did have Xenons and the inner halogen DID BURN also in hi-beam,
but I didn't have hi-beam assistance nor curb lights as not in my new LCI.
(Now in my new LCI I do not have have halogen bulp in the inner lamps at all).

If the inner light is halogen then I doubt very much if its BiXenon as that is what will do the high beam. On LCI Bixenon cars the inner halogen lamp has been replaced by the low speed turning(curb) light and the main xenon lamp does both high beam and dipped.

Yes, but I'm talking pre-LCI now!

I know that but if your inner lamp is halogen then you dont have low speed turning(curb lights) and it will have xenon not bixenon lights. Can't help on the high beam assistance as ive never seen it.

My old '05 525iA did have Xenons but not curb lights,
but it had inner halogens for flashing and as high-beam assists.

But in my new LCI '08, with Xenons also, I don't have inner halogens, only the Angel Eyes.

if you flash the bi-xenon, push lever away from self, it'll flash both the xenon and the halogen... If you pull lever towards self, it'll only flash the halogen, thats the case for bi-xenon on Pre-LCI models.

As for the high beam assist, can't help you there, never had that option.

Thanks for the info 525iSE,

But I'm still waiting for the answer to my topic question.

It's a hard one and therefore I ask it, I don't know the answer...

Ok this may be a stupid suggestion but try this

1. have somebody sit in your car while your standing in front of it with the headlight on.
2. Have them put the brights on. (Take note of what happens)
3. Have them "flash the brights" or pull the stalk back(take note on what happens)
4. You have answered your own thread.

Good luck
