Just walk to the front of the car and take a look at the bulb it should be stamped ds1 or ds2, you can't miss it.... I have a 04 545 mine is ds2.

As I am thinking of only changing one side (havent see the bulb on the other side, seems like that assembly was changed, and it can be .... either one I guess).. I am inclined to get as close to OEM as possible... so may settle for philips...

Great idea .. and I did that, however; one one side (that is off), it says both D1S and D2S (picture attached), on the other side, it only said D2S. I was inclined towards ordering D2S, but then luckily I thought of actually opening it up and see the bulb (to make sure model, as well as if it is gone or not)... as I have done that already three times, it was a breeze to take out the headlamp... and now I have the bulb in front of me (its gone and is D1S).
