Default xDrive Rim minimum offset

Hi guys,

I know there are a ton of posts on this, but I've been unable to find the answer I'm looking for.

I've got a 2010 xdrive e60 sedan.

stock rims are '17 with what appears to be a 40/43 mm offset.

my question is, what's the lowest offset I can go with a 17"? i want to keep a 7.5/8" width which seems pretty standard. when looking on tire rack they are offering 35mm offsets as the lowest, although i read a thread that said you can go lower.

for instance, there's a set of 327's off a 2012 drive 5'er and it's got a 30mm offset.

can i put these on my car and have it stick out just 1cm and be ok?

thanks,
dave

Welcome to the forum, Dave!

I also have an xi and I've always regarded 35 - 45 mm to be the offset range for our cars. 30 would be pushing it.

Actually...

X5 (E53 - 1995 - 2006) and 3 Series (E46 1999 - 2005 - non M) wheels also have compatible offsets to the E60 xi).

You can compile your wish list here: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/

so if a 32 fits fine . . . . a 30 is not too far off.

the difference between a 40mm offset and a 30mm is that the wheel will stick out 1cm . . . that can't be too much?

thanks for all your help!

can i go as small as a 16" or do they have to be 17's? I think I need 17's for the rotor, but just checking - thanks!

Here it is with ET32 and 245/40R18. A couple mm less would probably be fine as long as the tire width is right. I've used 10mm spacers on the front with the stock 17" 43mm offsets, 12mm on rear.

I have 19 staggered, 8.5/95 with 35et lowered, rubbed on the rear till i got it rolled. now if I want to I can add on another 5mm. But if yours set are only 7.5/8, and your car is not lowered, then 30 et can work.
