I am looking at buying a 2005 X5 that has been through fresh water flood . The water was all the way up to the bottom of the steering wheel know it was a right of the previous owner has striped the car and has spent $18.000 on modules for the car through BMW in Germany the car needs full coding and also the engine is hydro locked . What I want to know ,has anyone had this happen to them and if so how can the engine be fixed

I wouldn't even consider that car. Typically hydrolocked engines need one of 2 remedies, replacement or rebuild. You'd be shocked at how little water it takes to destroy an engine - a tablespoon, that's all. If you say it's been through a flood, no way that engine is worth saving.

hydrolocking is a VERY serious problem as it likely require major rebuild if it is even worth the trouble. Just imagine that water which can not be compressed got in between piston and header while engine is running something and maybe lots of things had to take that hit - roads got likely bent , crankshaft and bearings are likely no good anymore.... I would sell that engine for parts and replace engine..

I would walk away, even if it could be repaired there is no telling what ongoing issues you will see from having been previously in a flood. Unless they are selling it for less than what I could make in scrap or parting out, walk away. It's simply not worth the headache.

What I would do? I wouldn't even consider it... When my car got rear ended I went to the best body shop and asked for most aggressive estimate so insurance will total it instead of repairing because once car is off its perfect condition - it will never be like that.. and even if it was I don't want to take that risk.
Car which had water to it neck will rust, smell and have all kind of problems in the future...and itz valu in my eyes is ZERO .. ok value of spare parts,,,,

Engine should be rebuilt. Get in contact with Gor and ask him your questions. We've worked on projects and he may give you some insight into that situation.

Put a used motor in it if you even tackle a job like that. If hydro-locked most likely cracked a cylinder or worse.
