wrong oil ? will it matter?
i have just changed the oil/filters/seperater on my 535d
now i bought castrol magnatech diesel oil (fully synthetic)
but...i bought 2 different containers (and put them in)
only noticed when i was throwing the emptys away, i have the same oil..but different viscosities
5ltrs of 0-30, and 5 ltrs of 15-40
should i drop it all out and re-fill or will it not rearly matter?
except for the tiny writing the containers were exactly the same (my fault)
what do you think?

So not to worry, but I suggest you drive only half of normal oil change interval.

Dave,
I have to agree with Fastdsl - your car may be dirty and smelly
, but I would drop the oil and replace it with the proper grade. In the old days, it may not have mattered much, but these days, wrong oil viscosity is a big deal. As an example, Ford recommend thin oil for their Zetec engines, and when people put in normal 15w40 or 20w50, they get significantly reduced performance, and even engine damage - and Mr. Ford refuses to pay out under warranty if the wrong oil is used - when servicing at a non-Ford agent, the bill should specify the type of oil used.

Basicly if they are same type of oil, you now have a "10W-35 oil" mixture. That is not such big deal. But from DPF point of view, it matters. DPF engines should use Low SAPS (Sulfated Ash, Phosphorus) oil, so that DPF doesn't get blocked. This doesn't nessesary happen during one oil change interval. If it gets blocked, side effects are increased fuel consumption, decreased power, inc thermal load on engine and engine oil, oil gets thigher due to oxidation because of inc thermal load, increased wear etc.
So not to worry, but I suggest you drive only half of normal oil change interval.

I am putting Mobil1 ESP (BMW LL-4) into my 535d. Cost ?35 per 4ltr pack. Hope it doesnt cause any issues to the DPF.
cheers
