Wrong OEM MPM Connector?

Hi all!

I have an '05 530i, 155k miles. My car was afflicted with the notorious fried MPM in the trunk problem. Problem is, I got a replacement and found that it doesn't fit my original connector. What's strange is that when I looked at my old MPM, the grooves on it didn't line up with the original connector either. Both old and new MPM's have the same grooves, and I double checked with several online retailers who told me I have the correct replacement part. My question to all of you is this: did anyone encounter this problem when you changed your MPM? Did they replace connectors after a certain year? I appreciate you for taking the time to read this!

Here are some pictures of the culprits.

Old, fried MPM

you can see the plastic tooth next to the 3rd pin from right has been melted/damaged

Here is the new MPM

here we can see what the original is supposed to look like without damage. Note that the placement of the plastic teeth are the same
Here is the old connector

note how this groove does not line up with either MPM posted

Here is what the mechanics tell me is the correct connector:

all the grooves lineup with both old and new MPM. This definitely looks like the correct connector
