Hey Guys
Have u notice the ridiculous prices at the pumps lately? It's costing me US$100+ to fill up my 520i and I visit the gas station once every 1.5 weeks. Can't imagine how much it'll cost me if I had a 545i. Im kinda glad I picked the smallest engine of all (yes, I also dont hv the $ to buy the 545i, costs over US$110K here in Hong Kong).
So how do u feel about your choice of engine?
Cheers
Bunbun.

You have to realize that most people who buy luxury cars dont care about gasoline prices. If they can pay for a $50000 car they can pay a few hundred extra for gas.
12000 miles at 18 mpg = 667 gal of gas.
At $2.5 / gal that is $1667.5
12000 miles at 30mpg = 400 gal of gas
At 2.5 / gal that is $1000
More importantly people need to be educated on the effects of global warming and the need to reduce the reliance on nonrenewable resources.

I agree. My 545i is 40euros ( $50 ) more expensive per month at the pump than
my previous E46 328i. It's pretty OK.
In Holland, a diesel pays average, double in road taxes than it's petrol equivalent.
You have to make a lot of mileage to get it back from the diesel fuel savings.
I only do about 13-14000 miles/year, so a 545i was more interesting for me both in term of running cost
and at a personal level
Apart from that, the diesel range from BMW have outstanding engines, there would be no doubt - if I commuted far from my home to work that these would have probably been my first choice. I have driven both the 530d and 535d, fine
engines, but for me, taking all factors aboard, the V8 was more compelling.

Wishing that you had a smaller engine is like wanting a smaller penis.

Of course fuel consumption depends on HOW you drive too.

I knew about the gas prices when I made my decission.
No regrets, and actually a good feeling not thinking about the prices anymore. And driving a 545i in Germany means, you really don't look at the prices anymore. It would drive you crazy. I don't even know the current gas price...
