How will they change the engine of the 520d in September? I know it'll have more power but how much exactly and is it worth the wait and will it cost more?
b) personal preference
c) would BMW give away something they could charge more for? So IMHO - yes it will cost more.

- yes, the engine will change increase in HP from 163 to 177 HP ... on the E90 that brings it to 7.8s down from 8.3s (0-100kms). That's a lot!
- if it interests you: it will also get the new greatly improved 6-speed automatic so the economy might be even better
- it will also probably get the smarter cruise control which brakes going downhill etc.
- you won't know if it will cost more until much later... short answer ... probably
If you're not in a big hurry then it sounds like it would be worth waiting for...

The facelifted 525dA would be the one to buy now!

I'd still say the 6 cylinder 3 litre 325d will be the nicer all-round engine, the 4 cylinder is going to get a bit peaky? (Too much power from a 2 litre!)

They've applied a ?750 hike already, at worst another ?250... Have I missed the confirmation on updated engine/gearbox for 520d? I've only seen confirmation of brake function for cruise control from September? ![Think](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/think.gif)

I'm with Colejl on this one... where is there confirmation about the power increase for the 520d????
There was a lot mentioned in the car press and the Forums (including the best one - this one
![Big Grin](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/biggrin.gif)
Anyone have official information about the 520d power increase?

), but in the official BMW information recently released, it clearly states that the 520d will still have 163hp, not 175hp.

The leaked BMW PDF (the BMW UK "presentation" to dealers") on Page 28 showed a roadmap of pre and post LCI models. Nothing about the 520d changes on that one BUT...
here... http://www.autoblog.nl/archive/2006/10/02/...lift-maart-2007
(third table down) you'll see what looks to be a very similar BMW-sourced table referring to US & RoW models and you'll see that the 520d on that table is slated for a 10kW uplift 09/07.
It's also mentioned in the first table.
Circumstantial but enough to make me(!!!), if I were in the market for a 520d, take notice.

I guess with the rest of the info regarding the 03/07 release being accurate, why shouldn't the 09/07 info be accurate - as you state ABC, worth taking notice.
Any idea when the 1er or 3er changes are happening?
If it is in September, it would explain why BMW would hold back to introduce the new engine across all models using the 2 Litre diesel.

I wonder (apart from the number) what that actually means?
