Awesome topic - I am torn myself but leaning towards it - thus far I have had the HPFP problems but also a thrush (spelling?) bushing go. While I hate the idea of spending several thousand dollars right now on my car, I am leaning towards getting it just because knowing my luck I will have an expensive repair at 50,001 miles.

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
Thus far, I'm one and a half month out of warranty and all's well. Knock on wood!
Ps. I have placed $3500 (what the warranty would have cost) into an interest bearing account and will see how much of it is left or I need to add to by the end of three years.

My car was CPO and under the 100k extended warranty until the end of 2013 but Carmax offered me a warranty until 2017 for $1300. For that price I figured it would be worth it for the extra years even though it's going to overlapped BMW's warranty.

I was told by the dealer that my car was not on the list and then a month later I got the recall notice in the mail. My car was running fine and continues to run fine after the replacement of the HPFP. I wouldn't make a special trip unless you notice problems. BMW Canada seems to be spreading the notices out to ease the workload in the service centres.
No, we're not actually. Now my parents are exploring the possibility of selling the car now and just lease a 3-series in the meantime.
Thanks for all your responses! I think others may use this as reference for their decisions too as we're approaching the 4 year mark for 2008s.
