Hi everyone,

Just curious about this. I like wood trim on steering wheels if it's tastefully done, but not if it interferes with functions like my heated steering wheel, and not if it decreases grip and increases the risk of danger in an accident. To my knowledge, a wood trim steering wheel is not an option for the E60. Would you consider it if it was offered?

Are there not laws against putting a wood trim steering wheel in a BMW??!!

I would love a wood steering wheel!

When I'm driving very hard with white knuckles the leather/plastic steering wheel starts to get sticky from my palm's sweat.

Better yet, give me a carbon fiber steering wheel!

Sweaty palms and polished wood sounds like zero grip! Alacantra would be the only alternative to leather for these conditions but thats more Subaru than BMW.

My favorite is M sports wheel, wood is good too. I am okay with the standard one, wish there are options to upgrade.

AGHGHGHGHHGHGHG!

I've had one - THE WORST! Here in Chicago it was unbearably cold in the winter and unbearably hot in the summer and slippery ALL THE TIME!!! I liken it to putting Armor All on your gas and brake pedals. WHY would you want to make something slippery that is so critical to the control of the car?

Of note, the Lexus GS and LS can not be even ordered with a leather steering wheel here in the states. Tells you that their priorities are looks not function.

Actually I drove a Lexus hard around an autocross course and I liked the feel of wood during hard driving. I agree that one would initially assume it wouldn't be grippy, but it turned out great. Now if I'm doing a track event and I'm using Nomex gloves, then in that case I would not want wood. But with my plain hands I like wood...

Alcantera would be wonderful. The BMW M3 CSL and Lambo Gallardo SE have it. Doesn't seem like a Subaru thing to me...

FUGLY!!!. Try driving with a wood steering wheel in the summer. Feels like the damn thing is waxed.

Are you kidding me, no way. Those wood trim in my car are there because the car comes with it and it's black so I don't really notice it, otherwise I would've rip it all out and replace it with alu-cube trim. So enough said about wood in car.
