I dont think it makes a difference. I does however make the wipers go if its on auto and you spint the knob. When going from the slow to fast it makes them move once. THats it.

It clearly makes a difference for me. What CIP version are you on?

My only complaint is that the sensor does not work as accurately as the E39...

It does seem to make some difference for me, though I must say that the rain sensor seems to work much better in light rain conditions after my software upgrade to CIP 15.0

The whole idea behind "rain-sensing" wipers is that there should not be any adjustments. The wipers sense the rain and wipe as needed.

I have noticed no difference in the sensitivity dial.

No difference for me. CIP 13.3 (don't know the other s/w version # but the CIP version should correspond to only one s/w!)

True, but the idea is that the driver can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor to his or her personal taste. In light rain situations, some don't mind a bit of rain on the windscreen, while others want the sensor to operate the wipers immediately. If the rain sensor were so perfect, then why the heck did I have to frequently manually operate the wipers as I drove through light rain?

Page 57 of my manual clearly describes how the wheel is used to "Adjust the rain sensor sensitivity level"

Agree 100% -- I like to be in control of how much rain is on the screen before it decides to wipe. I spent some time driving an M-B without a sensitivity adjustment and it drove me crazy -- it wiped way too often! As I've said before, the E39 was about perfect. Hopefully the E60's will be refined with future software updates...

I concur, CIP 15.0 seems to have improved them somewhat in light rain or mist and the knob does seem to make some difference. Still to early for me to state this as fact though I think.
