My Ride: BMW 525i
Model Year: 2004
Default Steering Rack: Active or Non Active

Hi everyone -
I am new in the forum. My E60 2004 525i production date 03/23/2004 steering rack is acting up and i am about to replace steering rack. However, i am not sure my 2004 525i steering rack came with Active or non Active. I have check in realOEM.com but it shows both Active and Non Active Box with VIN Number.
Any help?

Thank you!

Start your car and turn the steering wheel left to right stops. If less than 2 full turns, lock to lock, you have active steering. If 2 or more turns, lock to lock, you don't have active steering.

Use a Vin decoder to see build list as fitted when car rolled off assembly line.

Turn engine on, turn steering wheel to right until lock it 1 and 1/2 full turn, same with turning steering wheel to left. I have Active steering rack?

On rereading your post above, if you have more than 2 turns of the steering wheel from full lock in one direction to full lock in opposite direction, you do not have active steering. In this case you indicate 3 turns for full lock to full lock.

You can also confirm your options with the vin decoder posted above.

A little something to review on active steering...
