Wait but doesn't in D alwayas start in 2nd? I'm a bit confused on this...

I believe that is true in a Steptronic - every time I flip the stick to the left when the car is at a standstill, the indicator screen shows 2nd gear.

No, it does not. My car starts in 1 when in D, unless it's been in start-stop traffic for a while.

Well, the transmission is also adaptive so if you are driving more agressively it might 'learn' to do that.

If you can call that driving. I call it queuing... At least, there is no need for winter mode in any of those places; any (uncommon) snow would melt very quickly with the heat from the engines!

Boy oh boy! Anyone else drive a manual anymore!!! I put Dunlop (I know I know, a bad word) winter sport tires (245 front and rear) on mine and absolutely ZERO issue in some pretty narsty winter driving conditions (Rudy can back me up) here in western PA. I have been passing all sorts of vehicles having troubles. I can't believe how good these tires are in the crud. Hard pack, slush, fresh powder...you name it. Little bit'a left foot right foot heel toe heel toe and away we go!!!

You got it my friend! I often pass Jeeps going up hills, etc. (to be fair, the Jeeps are probably using "all weather" tires...)

Uhhhm sorry what do you mean?! I know the heal and toe technique but that applys only when downshifting and rev-matching. So what are you talking about?
