Wing mirror question
#1
I have an '07 525 with the premium package, which includes an auto-dimming (electrochromic) rear-view mirror. But is this just the internal mirror, or are the exterior wing mirrors also auto-dimming? I need to know as I am about the get a driver's side aspherical wing-mirror from Europe, and they have both auto-dimming and non-auto-dimming parts. (Dealer tried to get it for me, but BMWUSA wouldn't let him do it - he says they are stopping him from gettng any European parts.)
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that if you have the auto-dimming interior mirror, you probably have the auto-dimming outside mirrors as well. Just to be sure, you can do a simple test to see what you have...
Just go drive around in the dark, turn on the headlights, etc. and place your finger over the forward facing light sensor on the back side of the interior rear-view mirror. If a car with headlights is behind you shining light onto the rear-facing sensor on the interior mirror, you should notice the mirrors darken significantly. (you might be able to simulate the car's headlights by shining a small flashlight at the mirror, etc.) Obviously, if only the center mirror darkens, you don't have auto-dimming side mirrors.
It's critical that the forward facing sensor remains covered the enitre time -- I think there's a slight delay before the mirrors react so be patient.

Rudy,
Could you lend some xenon toothpaste for this test as well? the little BMW glovebox based flashlight doesnt give off HALF the brightness those teeth do!
