Brought the car to my local dealer two weeks ago for a windshield crack. They agreed it was a stress crack and fully covered, will repair at no cost to me. Had to wait two weeks to schedule a loaner car. When i brought the car in for repair got a call one hour later- the windshield for HUD cars is different, don't have it in stock, will need to order it, from Germany! Will take 3-7 days to arrive. If they had only figured this out two weeks ago!! Many dealers, like this one, rarely see models with the HUD, it's the one option they're all fascinated by. Anyway, i'm driving an X3 now, it's ok, but a stick. After SMG, i'm never going back.

 

Yep, this is the second time I can remember someone posting about the fact that the dealer didn't know enough to order a HUD windshield before inconveniencing the customer. Sooner or later, they'll figure it out. You're correct in that they don't see too many HUDs around. My tech raves about mine every time he gets to play with it...

Oh, and one more thing, you couldn't be more right about the SMG!

 

I have the HUD and it's great. Everyone that drives the car raves about it, especially when the nav is on.

I've had the same problem with my car. I specifically asked them multiple times to check and see if it was a different windshield. Finally got them to agree it was and they placed an order for it and scheduled for the work to be done after it arrived. 5 hours after dropping off my car, they call and tell me that the windshield is on back order. Been about a month since I originally took the car in and still waiting.
