I love my E60 but I've noticed that the wipers leave, or rather, etch a line where they change directions on the windshield-i can scrub the line off but i am concerned about longterm wear and tear -

is this a breakin issue with new wipers???

please advise

Sounds more like film on the windshield. It's common if you use anything like Rain-X on windsheild or if you use some car washes.

Sounds like they are held so tight to the glass that the metal frame is contacting the glass. Is it clunking? That happened on my E39, when one tiny plastic strut of the frame was busted, and the DEALER couldn't see it and said the noise was just normal. But the E39 wipers had much more framework; my E60 is almost just bare blades.

In any event, yours is under warranty; if it is marking the glass, get it in immediately.

That's what I was thinking too. If you can remove it, it's not a scratch in the windshield, it's a buildup of something else.

It's probably a good idea to mention the fact that you should never operate the wipers on a dry windshield if you can avoid it. I know it's common sense to most people but you'd be surprised how many don't know the type of damage that can occur from wiper abraision...

To be safe, maybe you should think about taking your car to your dealer, under appointment, when the "scratches" are apparent. Let them tell you what the problem is. Then, I think you would be covered if your windshield ends up being scratched. This approach may be a bit extreme though.

I dont think they're scratches... I have them on mine... you can see them apprea with a damp towel... its like how hard water stains your paint... this is like wiper blades staining your glass... its not noticable only when damp or at certain angels so it hasnt bothered me yet.

The rubber may be dislodged and the metal is etching the glass. If thats the case than there is no repair and you need a new windshield. The dealer replaced mine under warranty.
