7 second long video of my wiper judder during light-mid rain. It doesn't happen on heavy rain.

I thought by the description, it would be like the problem I have with my driver's side wiper and the way it chatters back and forth. The dealer has replaced the wiper blades 5 or 6 times in a span of 2 years, and no luck yet! :getlost: My opinion, you should replace the wiper blades, and that should cure your problem. :geek: You could also of course use Rain-X on the windshield to make the surface more slick! I think Rain-X makes the wiper chatter even more....I just put a layer of wax on my windshield and I don't even need the wipers...

That's what I was worried about. Wasting money (because I'd have to pay for them, they won't be free) only to find out it makes no difference.

I'd been thinking of using something like Rain-X anyway, not specifically for this problem.

Then again, maybe Rain-X is a bad idea :lol:

Your problem is that the wipers are going too fast for the rain conditions. They don't make the noise when it rains heavily because the rubber never gets a chance to dry the glass like it's doing with the very light rain I see on the video. Dry rubber will always make that noise.

You take a car, any car, and turn on the wipers on a dry windshield and you will hear that noise nearly 100% of the time. I suggest that you put your wipers on long time delay or shut off the wipers altogether and just flick them once, once the windshield is really wet.

I've tried adjusting the sensitivity of the rain sensor using the dial on the stalk but it makes no difference at all that I can detect. I do often resort to turning the wipers off and flicking them when I need, but at that rain level in the video, I'd be doing it about every 2-3 seconds.

I just got a comment on my youtube video which kind of rings a bell (as if I'd seen someone say it before somewhere). The suggestion was to put some vinegar on a cloth and rub/clean the wiper blades with it. It seems certainly worth a try.

The Rainx has always initially made it better and then after a few days was worse than before. Its then almost like a drug, once you put Rainx on you need to treat the windshield every few days or its really bad.

Windshield wiper chatter can also be caused when the wiper blade angle doesn't allow it to sweep the glass smoothly. If the rubber blade is perpendicular to the glass it chatters it's way across. Another is a wiper refill blade that doesn't fit securely in the wiper arm.

Yet another cause is that old blades that lose their flexibility. A short term remedy - clean your wiper blades with a paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol. You'll get a lot of black gunk off - that's rubber and dirt!! Then use a good glass cleaner and paper towels to thoroughly clean the windshield glass.

I used to like RainEx - but it also leaves a coating on the glass and wipers. It's great IF you NEVER use your wipers. But once you do RainEx loses it's battle with water!

i had the same problem, even with new wipers. i used some car polish on the glass, and that gets rid of it.

Sounds like the alcohol would do the same thing as the vinegar (basically give the blades a damn good clean). Considering that the only alcohol we have in the house is a bottle of Baileys, I'll give the vinegar a try :D

I'll avoid going the Rain-x route. If the vinegar doesn't do the trick I'll try some new wiper blades. These may well be 5+ years old. I bought the car as it was 4 years old.
