I also use the concentrate and distilled water. It works great and is pretty convenient. I don't like the other stuff as it shows up on the windshield washer nozzles.
Is the BMW concentrate liquid colorless? With and without antifreeze?

+1 I couldn't agree more.

I guess I shouldn't comment though since the wife always says that I'm the king at over-thinking the simplest of things.

Love RainX, used it for years and helps with the ice and frost build up in the winter, and water rolls off the windows when it rains.

The point of contention is the color. I had an Alpine White E36 3-series. It had the clear windshield washer fluid from the factory, but I could not find any clear windshield washer fluid in the US at that time (early 1990's). I was told that color had to be added as a safety requirement. I hated how the blue fluid left a blue residue on my otherwise finely detailed Alpine White paint coat.

A 500 ml / 16.9 fl oz bottle with antifreeze cost $3.00 USD at my BMW Center. The concentrate is clear. They do not carry the non-antifreeze concentrate.

According to the mix instruction, for one gallon of water, +27F freeze protection requires one bottle ($3), +10F freeze protection requires four bottles ($12). That's pretty pricey for a gallon of windshield fluid. The BMW Center use them to prevent clogged nozzles (plus profit margin, I'm sure). Interestingly, during freezing temperatures, they use Rain-X 2-in-1 De-Icer and Bug Cleaner with -25F freeze point.

Vinegar may work, but it sure stinks!
