After a pretty heavy rainstorm I noticed what looks like windshield scrape marks. These marks are near the top of the windshield on the driver's side. The marks are all in one spot and were apparently caused by the wiper motion, as the marks are in a crescent shape.

I've had wiper marks on previous cars that wiped off easily, but these will not come off. The saving grace is that they are not in my field of vision, but they are annoying!

Anyone know what I can use on the glass to remove these? The wipers look fine, and they are only 3 weeks old.

That sounds really odd for such a new car! I wonder if there is some kind of filler type wax that would help with that. Rain-X is one idea, but that stuff is very wierd with the wipers sometimes.

I'd also ask the dealer about it. Maybe filling them in under warranty is a good idea if it continues to worsen...

It's a bummer to hear about your scratched windshield. One thing that you should never do is run the wipers on a dry windshield. I'm not saying you did that in this case, I'm just saying that it can do some major damage in a short time...

Yeah, it happens when you get grit under the wiper. Happened on my last BMW and it was in my field of vision. Over time (lots of time) it seemed to get slightly better but never went away. This indicated to me that there might be something that can be done to buff it out but I sold the car instead.

Glass Scratch Remover Paste
2 tablespoons glycerin
2 tablespoons jeweler's rouge
2 tablespoons water

Mix into a paste in a glass or plastic jar. Dab some paste on a clean cloth and rub scratched area. Wash off with clear water. If scratch is deep, repeat application as needed.

I have owned over 30 new vehicles in my lifetime, and I've never seen a more fragile, softer compound windshield than the ones in the E60. The least, most minor stone or abrasion causes damage. I have replaced my windshield after only a few months, and I have read the posts of many, many board members who have also had multiple replacements. Wonder what gives?

i've got the scratches too, and i swear i didn'd run the wiper blades when the windshield was dry, it's just the that the windshield glass is too soft!

Yes I've too got those wiper blade scratches... they're not really "scratches" they're more like leftover of windshield rubber stuck on the windshield. I got a NEW CLEAN piece make sure its new Razor Blade and just scrape it off... it'll come off with that.
